Letters from Europe was founded in June 2015 with the goal of furthering international communication and enhancing The Caravel‘s global presence. The initiative began after a chance encounter with the German ambassador to Switzerland, who was visiting Washington, DC in April 2015. Ambassador Lampe happened to pick up The Caravel‘s first print issue while on Georgetown University’s campus, loved reading the publication, and put The Caravel in contact with students at the University of Würzburg in Germany. Letters from Europe will publish ad hoc news and opinion articles contributed by university students throughout Europe, with the ultimate goal of strengthening The Caravel‘s commitment to providing under-reported, regional news and enhancing cross-cultural understanding.
